The city of Faribault, MN was established in 1852 by an entrepreneur fur trader named Alexander Faribault. During the 1860’s, the community gained national recognition for being the center of educational and religious activities. Several years after, the State Academies for the Blind and Deaf was established givingFaribault the nickname “Athens of the West”. As the city grew, a number of churches, homes, and structures were constructed that featured excellent architectural designs. At present, there are more than 40 properties that are listed at the National Register of Historic Places. Legacy Golf Course
This 18-hole golf course in Faribault, MN features 6,500 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. Designed by famous golf architect Garrett D. Gill, the construction of golf course began during the early years of 1990’s and was formally opened in 1998. With a course rating of 71.3 and slope rating of 134, the Legacy Golf Course also features more than 100 various golf community home sites. It is a public golf course that offers annual memberships, PGA Professional, leagues, tournaments, corporate outings, golf lessons, pro shop, practice facilities, club rental, golf cart rental, and snack bar. There are three kinds of holes at the Legacy Golf Course – at the center, the course is slightly hilly and surrounded by path of trees; at the northern part, the area is surrounded by prairie grasses showing Scottish influences; and at the southern region of the golf course, charming vistas can be seen and St. Mary’s school serves as the background.
Faribault Golf & Country Club
Originally a 9-hole golf course, Faribault Golf & Country Club is conveniently located along the 17th ST NW. This golf course in Faribault, MN was established in 1910. In 1956, the internationally acclaimed golf architect Willie Kidd designed new nine holes in the present area. Bob Carlson designed the additional nine holes and it was opened for public in 1966. At present, Faribault Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole golf course that features 6,524 yards of golf with a part of 72. It has a 70.5 course rating and 128 slop rating. Faribault Golf Club is one of the instrumental groups in founding the Minnesota Golf Association. It hosted the Minnesota State Open in 1974, United States Golf Association Open in 1984, and MGA Mid-Amateur in 1991.
Straight River Golf Course
Located just three miles from the center of Faribaultand is the Straight River Golf Course. This is an 18-hole golf course that features 3,460 yards of golf from for a par of 59. Designed by a known golf architect Irv Novak, the Straight River Golf Course was formally opened in 1998. It has a 70.0 course rating and 113 slope rating.
